Visiting Mercier Orchards can fit into a relaxed Blue Ridge weekend without taking over the entire itinerary. Decide first whether you want a market-and-bakery stop or a seasonal outdoor activity, then build the rest of the day around that choice.
Check Mercier Orchards’ official website before traveling for current hours and notices. A market visit and a U-Pick outing are different plans; the market being open does not guarantee that picking is available.
Check what is available on your dates
Mercier’s U-Pick calendar lists seasonal fruit activities. Availability depends on fruit and weather. Admission is purchased on-site, first come, first served, while fruit remains available. Do not assume a specific crop will be offered because it was available on a previous visit.
Weather can change outdoor plans. Mercier does not offer U-Pick or tractor tours during bad weather. Check the latest notice before leaving your accommodation, particularly when an outdoor activity is the main reason for your visit.
Leave room for the market and bakery
Browse the market and bakery for seasonal produce, cider, and treats such as fried pies or apple cider donuts. Mercier posts a changing selection of market produce online, which can help you plan a shopping stop. Selection varies; if a particular item matters to you, confirm availability rather than building the day around it.
Keep your shopping plans practical. Think about what you will eat during the weekend and what you can transport home. Bring suitable storage for anything that needs to stay cool and leave space in the car for your purchases.
Two Ways to Fit Mercier Into Your Weekend
- The shorter stop: visit the market and bakery, choose something for breakfast or the journey home, and continue to lunch or downtown browsing. This works when shopping is the reason for your visit.
- The orchard morning: leave the morning open for U-Pick when offered, then browse the market afterward. Avoid a train departure immediately afterward; fruit availability, admission queues, and weather can change your timing.
Decide What to Bring Back
Choose food to suit the kitchen you booked. Casita has a full kitchen for a cooked meal; Tiny has a kitchenette for a smaller, simpler spread. Bring an insulated bag for purchases that need cooling, protect bakery treats in the car, and buy what you can store or carry home comfortably. For a Sunday visit, complete your 10 AM property checkout first.
Plan an orchard morning with a flexible afternoon
For a two-night stay, Saturday can work well: visit the orchard, choose lunch, and leave the afternoon open for downtown browsing or time at your property. Do not schedule a train departure or dinner reservation so tightly that a queue turns into a rushed outing.
Our Blue Ridge restaurant guide can help with lunch or dinner ideas. Check each venue’s own menu and opening times before making a reservation. A short list of two options is often easier to use than a packed schedule.
If you prefer to stop on Sunday, plan around the property’s 10 AM checkout and check the orchard’s opening hours. Load your luggage and complete checkout first so you can continue your journey without returning to the rental.
Choose the right place to stay
Casita on the Ridge is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom home for up to four guests. It includes a full kitchen, screened porch, private hot tub, and infrared sauna in the king suite. The extra space suits couples who want room to cook or relax indoors.
Tiny on the Ridge is a 240-square-foot studio for up to two guests with a queen bed, kitchenette, full bathroom, private patio, and private hot tub. Choose it if a compact stay fits your plans; choose Casita if you want a full kitchen and more indoor space.
Both properties are approximately 5–6 minutes by car from Downtown Blue Ridge. That is a downtown estimate, not a verified drive time to Mercier Orchards. Check your route to the orchard separately and allow for weekend traffic.
Reserve your weekend
The usual minimum stay is two nights; longer minimums may apply to holidays or specific dates. Check the requirement shown for your dates before planning a two-night trip. Read the rental policies, compare property availability, and review the full trip total before booking. Orchard activities and accommodation are arranged separately.
